What is the 105 credit rule at University of Washington? ›

The University of Washington has a policy called Satisfactory Progress that requires students to declare a major by the time they have earned 105 credits and completed 5 quarters. Both conditions need to be met in order for the satisfactory progress rules to go into effect.

University of Washington admissions is selective with an acceptance rate of 48%. Students that get into University of Washington have an average ACT score between 27-33. The regular admissions application deadline for University of Washington is November 15.

Typical course loads. A typical class load for each quarter is 15 credits. If you complete 15 credits each quarter, and complete three quarters each year (autumn, winter, and spring), in four years you will have 180 credits, the number usually required for graduation.

For every 100 applicants, 48 are admitted. This means the school is moderately selective. The school expects you to meet their requirements for GPA and SAT/ACT scores, but they're more flexible than other schools. If you exceed their requirements, you have an excellent chance of getting in.

For full-time enrollment, you will typically need to earn 12-15 credit hours, which translates into taking four to five classes per semester. On the other hand, for part-time enrollment, you will need to earn fewer than 12 credit hours per semester, which means taking three or less classes per semester.

Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory (S/NS)

See the Academic Calendar for current dates. Neither an S nor an NS grade affects your grade-point average. If you earn an NS, you do not receive credit for the course. S graded courses count only as electives toward the 180 credits required for graduation.

The 210-credit rule

The University's satisfactory progress policy requires students to complete their undergraduate degree programs within 30 credits beyond the minimum required for the degree. Because most degrees require 180 credits, students generally must complete their programs by the time they earn 210 credits.

In general, one credit represents one hour in class per week. Many UW courses are 5 credits, and meet 5 hours per week. Most UW bachelor degrees require 180 credits. If you take 15 credits per quarter and attend three quarters per year, in four years you will have 180 credits.

Any student who wishes to take more than 18 credits during the fall or spring semester/term must submit a credit overload form and have earned a minimum 3.000 cumulative GPA on the UW-Madison campus.
